Noisey Gadgets
I did some recording today with some of my new favorite musical instruments.
Some of these I built or modified myself.
Here is a list of the toys I was using:
1) Gakken SX 150 analog synth kit
2) Homemade Atari Punk Console (no kit, made from scratch using Circuit Board from Radio Shack).
-this is the device housed in the red Swiss army tin.
3) Transistor radio noise synth- Made from taking apart a transistor radio and Orange Tupperware container. This is an example from Nicolas Collins’ book. noise is made by touching resistor points on the circuit board and tweaking the volume pot. the beauty of this instrument is that no 2 transistor radios sound exactly the same. so start hitting garage sales.
4)Stylophone BeatBox (not modded…yet)
5)Modified danelectro Fab Echo- Housed in the Green Tupperware container, removing the delay time resistor and adding a potention gives the unit a lonnnnnnng analog delay. it really sounds awesome!
6) last is my trusty Electrix Filter Queen. This unit is so cool, and sounds great with the APC running through it.
I’m actually using these on my new recordings. That’s right, I’m working on a new record.
More info on that soon. and I’ll post some sounds from these toys, as well.
late,
James
Updated Sessionography
I updated my credits and sessionography to include everthing I worked on to this date.
Note that the credits that say “Upcoming Album” are labeled so because that Album has not been finished or has not been released with a formal title.
thanks,
JD
Gemini Wolf -Remix Album
I’ve remixed a song for Gemini Wolf which will be released this month on Earsnake Records along with other remixes by some todays most creative producers.
Prism’s Child (Touchy Feely Remix) in on Rare But Serious Side Effects, and will be released on March 23rd. I believe it will be “pay as much as you’d like” release. So be fair, it’s your support that keeps creative opportunities like this coming!
Gemini Wolf will also be throwing a release part for this record at Tritone, Philadelphia, PA on Saturday March 27th.
Thanks,
Touchy Feely aka James
Latest Happenings!
Hey!
I’d like to give some updates on a few bands I’ve worked with over the last few years. I feel like I’ve not only been given the opportunity to work on some great music, but I’ve made some great friends in the process. This is important in this business.
Harmonize Most High have released they’re latest album on limited vinyl. It sounds really great!
check out http://musicofthesphere.wordpress.com/ for info on them and how to get your copy.
Out Like Lambs is set to release they’re latest album on vinyl, too! I think I see trend here. Vinyl is coming back in big way. Look out for this. goto: http://outlikelambs.com/
In the meantime read a recent review of their 4 song CDEP that I recorded and mixed.
http://commonfolkmeadow.wordpress.com/2010/01/09/maybe-you-missed-it-out-like-lambs-out-like-lambs/
ThunderBunny is set to release a bunch of material soon (all recorded by me and Mixed by Alap Momin and Deadverse Studio) . I’m just going to copy and paste what he sent me:
“hi…
just some thunder bunny stuff… so delete now if you don’t care…
starting in march, thunder bunny takes the indie label world by storm…
march 9th… “demons”ep is to be released on edition 59/vollwert records http://www.vollwert-records.de/
(this is going to be a DOUBLE 3 ” cd… which i think is amazing… if not cute)
march 14th… appearance on volume three of the massive 75 track bosque/woodland records compilation (thunder bunny closes out the whole thing… a spot on the roster that i’ve been assured is one of honor… not that we were the last on his mind)
http://woodland.blogspot.com/
march 15th… “my love, thou art a monster” ep is being released on spanner records
http://www.indiepages.com/spanner-records/
before this goes down… in february workerbee records is going to release the first of two compilations that will have thunder bunny on them… (no exact date for the one in feb. and not even sure about the month for the second one)
http://workerbeerecords.com/
(and although the exact details have yet to be arranged, workerbee is very excited to be the american label of the first two eps mentioned… although the details aren’t completely arranged yet… it even seems that there will be a CASSETTE version of these things eventually).”
So he has alot going on, plus we’re in the studio currently recording a new record.
2010 has been a busy year so for Me. I just started work with Sally Boyd on the follow up to his successful album, 1.14.08. The new stuff was recorded live at Lake House Studio in Interlaken, NJ. I’ll be mixing it soon.
I just finished a mix for Adam Rudolph and Yusef Lateef, which was a live recording from Roulette, NYC.
I’ve spent 2 days at Orange Music Sound Studio, recording Loud Apt, a NY based funk rock band that infuses world rhythms. Great Stuff! We’re recording all live with minimal overdubs.
As always, I’ll be updating posts here with news about releases for the bands and artists I work with, and to give details about my current recording sessions.

News!
Hey!
November was a busy month and I just wanted to keep you informed of the work CMA has done.
Guitarist, Dominic Kanza was at Orange Music Sound Studio recording the music he wrote for the Pulitzer Prize winning Off Broadway play, Ruined. Providing vocals at the session was Condola Rashad, daughter of tv/theater star Phylicia Rashad (the Cosby Show).
Cornetist/Producer Graham Haynes and Elektra Kurtis are currently mixing her latest album, which was recorded at OMSS in October. We are in the final stages of tweaking. this is a great album of songs, look out for this when it is released.
Percussionist Adam Rudolph recorded the String Section of his Go! Organic Orchestra at Orange Music Sound Studio. These piece are going to be blended with material that We will record in April, 2010.
Raymond Bally and his band, the Renegades, recorded more basic tracks plus vocals for what will be his new studio album. I’m really enjoying working on this project. The band’s spirit and positive attitude towards playing music and having fun, really makes my job easier. Our next plan is to do some overdubs. I’ll keep you informed of the progress.
Lastly, to round out November, I did some recording for Phil Bensen. Joanna Burns did some background vocals and Harmonies for 2 of Phil songs. We also recorded a Violinist, named Nicole (sorry, i didn’t get her last name). She played on 2 of Phil’s Songs, plus 2 of Joanna’s songs.
So, maybe my blog posts aren’t that interesting, I’m only listing the artists I’ve worked with over the past month, with brief details. I’m doing this for a few reasons. To show you that things are moving here at Creative Music and Audio. If I wasn’t busy working, I would be writing more about a variety of topics. I’m also providing the names of the artists I work with, to show the diversity of the music styles that I have experience recording and mixing. Lastly, I hope that you read about a new artist or one you’ve never heard of, and are interested in hearing there music. I’ve been fortunate to work with very talented musicians. Even if their style of music is one that I don’t prefer personally, I can still see their integrity in their music.
Thanks,
James
October happenings!
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to fill you on what CMA’s been up to this month.
Well, there’s alot.
First off, the film “Yoko/Shmono” has been finished, I’ve provided some original music compositions for. It also features music by Zelda Pinwheel, Thunder Bunny, and Paper Masques. Keep an eye out for when this is showing.
Speaking of ThunderBunny, I just help wrap up their latest records with mastering. One of them is a a Christmas Card album, which features a rendition of Silent Night, as well as the Touchy Feely remix of their song Lollipop (from their Demons ep).
I also spent 2 days tracking, at Orange Music Sound Studio, Elektra Kurtis and her Ensemble. This is for a record produced by Graham Haynes. We’ll mixing this record later on in the month.
Ray Bally and his band of Renegades, came to OMSS this month, as well, to record some live pieces. So far, they sound great!
If you don’t know Raymond Bally, check out his stuff. He’s got an interesting approach to traditional songwriting, exploring and experimenting with unique musicians as his band.
I’ll be Mixing 7 songs with Blind Idiot God this month. Fans of theirs will not be disappointed in the new material.
Lastly, I took a job this month, recording Sound FX for a short film called “The Angel” by Karthik Meyyappan.
That’s about it, as far as work is concerned.
As Always, If you’re looking for different music Check out Touchy Feely, Pidgin Droppings, Paper Masques, and Zelda Pinwheel.
Later,
james

The second film is a fictional story based in NY by filmmakers Andrei Drooz and Matthew Rappaport, and it involves a Mime. I’ve just taken on this gig, so I don’t have much to say about it, but I’ll fill you in with more details as I continue to work on it.
